This work explores and showcases the early stages of evolution, and is an example of what Anicka Yi describes as prehistoric bio-fiction. It is milled from high density foam, and each piece has a custom distressed chrome finish to achieve a futuristic look while referencing an ancient archeological tableaus.
I began by researched the flora and fauna of the Precambrian age, and then re-created the speculative illustrations and descriptions into dimensional forms.

I then created a system to generate the 'bed' on which the forms would be embedded, and then randomly size and arrange those elements across it's surface and cascading over the edges.

Above are some touchpoint moments along the process of designing and fabricating one of these artworks. A lot of work happened in between these steps, but it can be interesting to see the through lines from beginning to end.
